Hello World of Bongs Community, today we talk with Luis Monsante (Borocat) the founder of the Borocon in Dallas:
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN GLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I’ve always been interested in glass art and when I started smoking in my teen years I started collecting functional glass until the day I started blowing glass for my self!
WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR SKILLS?
I learned my skills in my garage, all self taught, learning the hard way!
DO YOU CREDIT ANY OTHER GLASS BLOWER WITH HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR SUCCESS?
There are many glassblowers in the industry that I accredit to my love of glass and as inspiration but most of my glassblowing career has been achieved by my own hard work!
TALK TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR STYLE.
I try to stay as artistic and clean as possible. I want me work to look sophisticated and classy!
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?
I like bright colors and crushed opal and opals! I put them on everything I can!
WHAT’S THE MOST EXPENSIVE/BEAUTIFUL PIECE YOU’VE EVER MADE?
I am very proud of my collabs with Bishop, Casto and Creep which were probably some of the most expensive and nicer pieces I have had the honor to make.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT ON THE PATH TO “MAKING IT” AS A GLASS ARTIST?
I’m not sure, there is nothing that is coming to mind.
AND WHAT WAS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?
Starting BoroCon – The Double Blown Show in 2016
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW GLASS ARTISTS?
Start as a hobby and don’t try to make money off of it right out the gate. Give yourself time to lead without the stress of making sales.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STRAIN/EXTRACT, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE TO DAB IT IN?
I love me some live resin out of my little Jag piece.
IF YOU COULD MAKE YOUR “DREAM” PIECE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
That’s a hard questions, I think my dream pieces are collabs with some of my glass idols that I hope will happen in the future!
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE, MOST OF ALL IN THIS WORLD, TO HIT YOU UP FOR A PIECE, AND WHAT PIECE WOULD YOU MAKE FOR HIM/HER?
I have no idea, I am happy when anyone hits me up for a piece haha
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLASS ARTISTRY IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?
I think it depends on the smoking trends, glassblowers will always find a way to make what is most convenient for smokers.
IF YOU WERE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES WITH YOU, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
I’d want my torch, glasses and a little glass!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC TO WORK TO/DAB TO?
MF Doom!
THANK YOU, BOROCAT, FOR THIS NICE INTERVIEW! WE WAIT TO SEE MORE AMAZING ARTWORK MADE BY YOU!
