Purcellglass

Hello World of Bongs Community, the next in our section about the artists is Kyle Purcell (Purcellglass). He is an amazing talent with wonderful artwork.

WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN GLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Fire has always fascinated me. When I was 7 years old, I found out what happens when you spray a lighter with hairspray. I burnt my hand so bad that I had to miss school the next day. I didn’t see glassblowing until I was about 12 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The first questions I asked the artist was, “do you make pipes? Can I see them?” After some convincing, he opened the case and immediately thought that that’s the coolest job ever. When I was 28, I fell into a world off depression and literally wanted to take my own life. I went to meet a friend named Adam to give him back some climbing equipment he’d left in my car, Adam kind of guilt tripped me into hanging out with him and his friend. Turns out his friend was none other than WJC. WJC and I established a great relationship and I didn’t even know he was a glassblower until he invited me to his shop. I had a poster in my room of a pipe called “the warlock key” made by Adam G, when I arrived at WJC’s shop, that same pipe was just sitting on a shelf. At that moment I said, “I need a torch.” WJC got me one within a week.

WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR SKILLS?
My skills were learned from just watching all my favorite artists. Id show up, roll them a fat blunt, keep my mouth shut and just watch. Any question I had, they wouldn’t give me a straight answer. “Mind over matter,” is the only answer WJC would give me the first year I was melting. “Slow and steady wins the race,” was my lesson for my second year. I then turned to books and youtube videos to further expand my knowledge.

DO YOU CREDIT ANY OTHER GLASS BLOWERS WITH HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR SUCCESS?
The artists I give the most credit to helping me get to where I am, are the incredible artists of Everdream studio. That includes N8 Miers, WJC, Eusheen, Elbo, Joe Peters and Adam G. im incredibly lucky to know these dudes and feel blessed that they appeared in my life. Wouldn’t be a glassblower if it weren’t for them.

TALK TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR STYLE.
I refer to my work as “Kyle Style.” Freddy Faerron refers to it as OCD work. I generally start with a basic idea then usually add something at the last minute. I like to just let the piece tell me what to do. All my inspiration comes from the beauty of the rocky mountains.

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?
Borosilicate

WHAT’S THE MOST FAVOURITE PIECE YOU’VE EVER MADE?
Every piece is my favorite piece

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT ON THE PATH TO “MAKING IT” AS A GLASS ARTIST?
Most embarrassing moment was helping fuck up a millie that took 5 days to prep. Was not all my fault. So embarrassing that I don’t even want to mention names.

AND WHAT WAS YOUR BEST MOMENT?
My proudest moment was being featured in the “Flow” magazine.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW GLASS ARTISTS?
My advice? Keep your focus on YOUR work. Not others.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STRAIN/EXTRACT, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE TO DAB IT IN?
My favorite strain is Durban Poison. My favorite rig to smoke out of is my certo torch rig.

IF YOU COULD MAKE YOUR “DREAM” PIECE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
Every piece I’ve made is my dream piece.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE, MOST OF ALL IN THIS WORLD, TO HIT YOU UP FOR A PIECE, AND WHAT PIECE WOULD YOU MAKE FOR HIM/HER?
Id like to make a piece for Neil deGrasse Tyson. Id make a sweet space tech Sherlock for him.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLASS ARTISTRY IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?
The industry seems to be changing by the hour every day. Truthfully, I have no idea which direction its headed. im just along for the ride and excited to see what it shows me along the way.

IF YOU WERE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES WITH YOU, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
If I were stranded id bring a knife, water purifier, and fire starters. Id worry about getting high once I was rescued.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC TO WORK TO/DAB TO?
I love all sorts of music! I work to a lot of metal and classic rock. When im dabbing I like to sesh to jazz or blues music. Makes me feel classy.
