Hello World of Bongs Community, the next in the round of our interviews is Ed DuBick from Boro Ballers:
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN GLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
The freedom and flexibility of being my own boss was a huge draw to me. As well as the ability to be creative and to always challenge myself which keeps the work exciting.
WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR SKILLS?
I picked up the basics off of a few guys in the early 2000s, but mostly trial and error.
DO YOU CREDIT ANY OTHER GLASS BLOWERS WITH HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR SUCCESS?
Most of the success I’ve had has to be credited to the love and support of my wife.
TALK TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR STYLE.
I pull inspiration from all over the industry, such as clean lines, form and function. If I can, I like to incorporate humor and shock value.
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?
I pretty much work exclusively with borosilicate glass.
WHAT’S THE MOST FAVOURITE PIECE YOU’VE EVER MADE?
It would have to be a pendant I made a few years back that the opal placement was perfect, the background color struck out amazing and the pink Slyme horns were on point. I liked it so much I gave it to my wife so I could see it all the time.
WHAT WAS YOUR WORST MOMENT ON THE PATH TO “MAKING IT” AS A GLASS ARTIST?
Nothing really stands out. Maybe as I continue “making it” I’ll come up with something.
AND WHAT WAS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?
Best moments are always changing with learning new techniques, reaching personal/career milestones or attending industry events.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW GLASS ARTISTS?
Stay humble and hustle hard. Keep learning and pushing yourself. Don’t overlook common sense.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STRAIN/EXTRACT, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE TO DAB IT IN?
Orange Cream Rosin from 710 labs with a Joel Halen Honey Bucket out of our Alex Schmalex Rig.
IF YOU COULD MAKE YOUR “DREAM” PIECE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
A million bucks….lol
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE, MOST OF ALL IN THIS WORLD, TO HIT YOU UP FOR A PIECE, AND WHAT PIECE WOULD YOU MAKE FOR HIM/HER?
I would have to say Woody Harrelson and I’d make him whatever he wants. I have always respected him for his advocacy for Cannabis over the years and it would be an awesome excuse to meet him.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLASS ARTISTRY IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?
As more states go medical and recreational, the glass industry will continue to boom.
IF YOU WERE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES WITH YOU, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
A clear marble for starting fires, a sturdy bong, and a heady pendant so I can be stuntin’ hard if I get rescued.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC TO WORK TO/DAB TO?
A rotating mix of old school gangsta shit, reggae, dub step, and trap music.
