Hello World of Bongs Community, today we talk with Sam Rose (Soulmastaglass), well known for his nice Budnana pendants:
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN GLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I got interested in glass when I was 13 years old, when I started smoking weed my brother got me a dragon bowl piece it was definitely China glass but I love it so much. I had to have more so I started collecting glass. Then in about 2012-2013 at a treating yourself expo I think it’s known as champs now. I met gump glass, he was same age as me (20) and making sweet implosion reefs. I needed to start blowing glass after that moment.
WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR SKILLS?
I learned most of my skills from Internet glass forums so in a way I would say I am self-taught but also got a lot of info from Dustin revere’s videos. Also torch talk on YouTube is always a fun learning experience. And my first pipe lesson was taught by Al Gore Glass in 2013 but I didn’t get any equipment until a year later. Iv also taken a class from Robert Mickelson.
DO YOU CREDIT ANY OTHER GLASS BLOWER WITH HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR SUCCESS?
I would say I’m a lone wolf but also shout outs to the people I mentioned above.
TALK TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR STYLE.
My style?.. I would say I don’t really have a style. I mean I like realism, I like things to look like they are, I also like cartoony style, trippy designs. colorful. I really like sculpting.
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?
Borosilicate Glass, Gilson Opals
WHAT’S THE MOST FAVORITE PIECE YOU’VE EVER MADE?
Some of my favorites are the budnana pendants, wu tang killa bee pendant, and my comb creatures. Also my nugs and the lil pump rig. I honestly love everything I make.. lol.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT ON THE PATH TO “MAKING IT” AS A GLASS ARTIST?
Dropping pieces and burning myself when I should know better.
AND WHAT WAS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?
I would have to say when one of my videos got over 200,000 views, I couldn’t believe that. Was super stoked.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW GLASS ARTISTS?
I would say to work hard, always think glass. (Glass rules everything around me) and practice what u wanna make!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STRAIN/EXTRACT, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE TO DAB IT IN?
Right now I’m dabbin some grape kush, I don’t really have a fav rig as I usually just smoke whatever shop rig I have kicken around, I really wanna make myself a nice one, one day.
IF YOU COULD MAKE YOUR “DREAM” PIECE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
Dream piece…hmm. Mabe an epic full plant flowering nug rig.
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE, MOST OF ALL IN THIS WORLD, TO HIT YOU UP FOR A PIECE, AND WHAT PIECE WOULD YOU MAKE FOR HIM/HER?
I think Wiz Khalifa or Curren$y as I love there stoner music and think they would really appreciate the glass. Or Action Bronson & Methodman. I would make them something that meant a lot to them. Something to do with weed.. lol
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLASS ARTISTRY IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?
Next Big Glass Innovation…. Heady Glass Clothing. It’s already begun. Budnana Clothing.
IF YOU WERE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES WITH YOU, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
I would hope I have a rig that looks like Wilson. A magnifying glass, and a heady bottle to leave a note in.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC TO WORK TO/DAB TO?
Currently I am listening to hip hop instrumentals, as I rap over top. but I am big fan of all music. A few favs are. Wu-Tang, Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y and my good friend Geoff Woods beats.
