Hello World of Bongs Community, we got the honor to talk with Rob Space (Spaceglass), an amazing sculpturing artist with funny pieces:
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN GLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I’ve always been involved with art since I was young. Having an art teacher for a mom when I was little started the path. One day a friend let me try out a torch, and there was no going back.
WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR SKILLS?
I had a good friend that managed the hot shop for Grav in austin, tx. He told me I should come by and see what I thought about it. It all started there.
DO YOU CREDIT ANY OTHER GLASS BLOWER WITH HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR SUCCESS?
There are so many that have helped and influenced me along the way. The 2 most important I met at grav, Mike Howard and Stephan Peirce. Mike had his own unique take on glass that I always admired. Stephan is a complete wizard. He taught me more than you can imagine. He’s like the mcguyver of glass.
TALK TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR STYLE.
My style is just a big mess of whatever. I do a lot of sculptural stuff. I’ve always been a big horror and nostalgia kind of person. Guess I draw motivation from that.
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?
I’ll work with anything I can get my hands on, no matter what medium.
WHAT’S THE MOST FAVOURITE PIECE YOU’VE EVER MADE?
I’m pretty sure each new piece is my favorite. I really enjoyed the collaboration I did with Rudeboy.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT ON THE PATH TO “MAKING IT” AS A GLASS ARTIST?
Don’t think I’ve made it… I don’t really get embarrassed when working in front of people. Everybody messes up, and it’s good to remember that. It’s part of learning.
AND WHAT WAS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?
I think every time I finish a piece is my new proudest moment. Although, getting a piece to Ron White and Yolandi from dieantwoord was cool.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW GLASS ARTISTS?
There are no rules. Make what you want to make.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STRAIN/EXTRACT, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE TO DAB IT IN?
Surprisingly, I don’t smoke. Most people scratch their head at that.
IF YOU COULD MAKE YOUR “DREAM” PIECE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
I have plans on making a giant bone organ, like from the goonies. Playable. It will happen.
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE, MOST OF ALL IN THIS WORLD, TO HIT YOU UP FOR A PIECE, AND WHAT PIECE WOULD YOU MAKE FOR HIM/HER?
Anybody who digs what I do really. Each piece is special because it means something to somebody.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLASS ARTISTRY IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?
I have no idea. Things are constantly changing. I’ll just keep doing what I love.
IF YOU WERE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES WITH YOU, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
I guess any sculpted character. That way I have someone to talk to.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC TO WORK TO/DAB TO?
I listen to everything when I work. From Hsnk III, to metal, to hip hop. You name it.
