Frank Fleischer

Hello World of Bongs Community, today we take a turn over to Germany and talk with the artist Frank Fleischer:
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN GLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I saw Glassblowers working and thought :” Looks like fun, i can do that too”

WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR SKILLS?
I was self taught through Youtube and the internet and by try and error the first half year. Then with 33, i gave up my old job and started an apprenticeship as a scientific glassblower. This took 3 years. Now im a  working as fulltime Glassblower. I work at two different universities as a scientific glassblower and after that i make my own stuff in my home studio.

DO YOU CREDIT ANY OTHER GLASS BLOWER WITH HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR SUCCESS?

I didnt know any glassblowers when i started. I got a few setbacks when i contacted some more experienced glassblowers in the beginning, which were not friendly to me (i believe its a german thing, because i only experienced it here). But i have a lot of friends in the glassblowing community all over the world now and i dont want to miss it. I really apreciate the friendlyness in our scene, and i wanna give shoutouts to all the people i met, collabed with or will meet in the future

TALK TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR STYLE.

I don´t know how to describe my style, it varies from piece to piece. I like clean simple forms and patterns. I take inspiration from very different things like nature or graffitti, sometimes i get lost in intricate things and patterns, or sweat my ass of with a large scientific style assembly…

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?

Borosilicate, mostly coloured glass.

WHAT’S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PIECE YOU’VE EVER MADE?

I think its the last piece i made. . It was a custom order for a cfl colour changing recycler with faded space sections.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT ON THE PATH TO “MAKING IT” AS A GLASS ARTIST?

The time i was an apprentice… 😀  get out of your dreams bro that shit is hard  :):)

AND WHAT WAS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?

I have proud moments every day when someone likes my stuff or if a customer writes me that he loves what i did for him. The best moments are to make new glassblower friends.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW GLASS ARTISTS?

Practice the fundamentals over and over – Learn to pull points

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE STRAIN/EXTRACT?

My fav strain is Amnesia. I have a couple favs i think, like the Kush and Sours Diesel variations.

IF YOU COULD MAKE YOUR “DREAM” PIECE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?

I think it would look simple and classy. Form follows function.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE, MOST OF ALL IN THIS WORLD, TO HIT YOU UP FOR A PIECE, AND WHAT PIECE WOULD YOU MAKE FOR HIM/HER?

Idk,….i think all customers who hit me up are very special!

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLASS ARTISTRY IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?

Very hard question, i think that the puffco has such an impact. It will go on in that direction, but there will always be glass pipes.

IF YOU WERE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES WITH YOU, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?

A pineapple, my pillow (cant sleep without it), weed or seeds.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC TO WORK TO/DAB TO?

Instrumental hip hop.
