Hello World of Bongs Community, here we are with Dominique Vazquez (Fenix Fire Art), an amazing fine art artist, well known through many of her famous designs:
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN GLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I dropped out of high school to help my terminally ill aunt I was living with at the time she smoked a lot of marijuana i has a few glass pipes already at 14. I moved to cape cod Massachusetts knowing I had invested most of young life in the art room at school so my family introduced me to brook Morrison to start an apprenticeship glassblowing
WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR SKILLS?
I’ve been doing art since I can remember. I won awards from the Boston globe in high school. I’ve been saying recently perspective is more difficult than glass.
DO YOU CREDIT ANY OTHER GLASS BLOWER WITH HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR SUCCESS?
I’m a long wolf in the sense I’ve been working alone as an independent artist since I started but I have to many people to list that have helped in my adventures traveling
TALK TO ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR STYLE.
My style is inspired by the world everything I see in it. As an artist every one of them takes inspiration from this all art is imitation from something.
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO WORK WITH?
I love borosilicate glass but I still try and draw even recently started painting.
WHAT’S THE MOST EXPENSIVE/BEAUTIFUL PIECE YOU’VE EVER MADE?
I was part of a 4 way collab on a beautiful pipe over a foot tall worth retail 5k. What an honor!
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT ON THE PATH TO “MAKING IT” AS A GLASS ARTIST?
One of the Worst moments was when I was making a pipe had a lighter resting on my torch base. The radiant heat was so bad it slumped the completely full lighter causing it to blow up making a fire ball rush up my torso. It didn’t hurt me singed my eyebrows a bit but my life flashed before my eyes for some reason I thought I died !
AND WHAT WAS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?
Everytime I make a mile stone in my skill I’m very proud !
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW GLASS ARTISTS?
To new glassblowers if you want to make art draw in your free time work on your prospective
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STRAIN/EXTRACT, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE TO DAB IT IN?
My favorite strain I’m not sure about as long as it’s nice I don’t really care. My favorite pipe to smoke out of is a huge dragon tube I made yrs ago I kept for myself
IF YOU COULD MAKE YOUR “DREAM” PIECE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
I have a few dream pipe concepts that I haven’t made the time to turn into reality. Right now I’m itching to make a recycling bubble pipe
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE, MOST OF ALL IN THIS WORLD, TO HIT YOU UP FOR A PIECE, AND WHAT PIECE WOULD YOU MAKE FOR HIM/HER?
I like everyone but I’d like someone to fund me to make something epic ! I would defiantly love to put the time in.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLASS ARTISTRY IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?
I’m not sure what the future holds for glass I’m still blown away where it’s come to. The guy who taught me was very old school. I myself didn’t know about Instagram the first yr glassblowing I just did craft fairs. I know it won’t be in danger of being a dying art anytime soon that much is for sure.
IF YOU WERE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES WITH YOU, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?
Gosh if I was stranded on an island I would bring a knife ,flint ,and something to make water . I can always make art with the tools nature would provide I would have plenty of time on my hands
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC TO WORK TO/DAB TO?
I love imonster , Led Zeppelin, real oldies like mango jerry , Donovan, Davis Bowie , the tokens, 21 pilots are one of the few popular bands I listen to, I like old school rappers , I love all sorts of music really.
THANK YOU, FENIX FIRE ART, FOR THIS NICE INTERVIEW! WE WISH TO SEE MORE NICE ARTWORK OF YOU.
